Frequently Asked Questions

We hope you find this Frequently Asked Questions page helpful.  If you have a question that is not answered here,  please contact us for more information.

Are pets allowed at
Goat Rock?

Pets are allowed at Goat Rock but are the owners responsibility.  Pet owners must remember that Goat Rock is on a working sheep property and is home  to sheep, cattle, horses, goats, donkeys, ducks, geese and chooks plus farm dogs and cats, as well as the large array of native animals on the property.  Pets are NOT allowed at our function centre 'The Shed' as it is a food area.

Do we need to book in
advance?

UPDATE: In line with our COVIDSafe Plan we are now recommending that campers book with us prior to arrival.
Booking in advance makes us aware that you will be coming, especially in busy times such as Easter and School Holidays.  There are also functions held thoughout the year at The Shed which may affect camping availability.  By contacting us with your camping plans, we can give you additional information regarding weather conditions and anything else you may need to know.  Bookings can be made online  and by contacting us.

What is a 'Donkey’?

A donkey is a water heating system to enable campers to enjoy hot showers.  Cold water is poured into the drum, a fire is lit underneath and heats the drum thus heating the water.  As cold water is poured into the tank, hot water rises to the top and out the spout and into an awaiting bucket to be taken to the showers.

Is there powered sites
at Goat Rock?

No, there are no powered sites available at Goat Rock.  Generators are allowed and most travellers have their own small generators for their own power requirements.

Where do we pay?

Payment of camping and day visit fees can be paid at Goat Rock at the Information Stand.  Fees are to be placed in the Honesty Tin provided with registration forms.    If you are camping for a few days and would like to book and pay in advance, details can be provided on request.

Is there Drinking Water at Goat Rock?

Yes, there is tank water (rain, non-chlorinated)  provided at Goat Rock, which is suitable for drinking.

Can I have a campfire?

Yes, campfires are permitted, only in the 2 existing fire circles.   Otherwise people must have an enclosed firedrum.  Total Fire Bans and warnings must be abided by.   This information is available from the  NSW Rural Fire Service website.    Goat Rock Management from time to time will impose their own Fire Bans depending on weather and conditions.  Contacting us with your travel plans will help in learning of this  information.

Why is it called
‘Goat Rock’?

Goat Rock is the name given to the large whale-shaped rock which is easily accessible at the northern end of the Camping Grounds.  It is an easy walk to the top of Goat Rock from where you can enjoy the view of the Texas area and Dumaresq River valley.  The rocks in the tourist park have generally been referred to as Goat Rock and this name has lived on.  Unfortunately in the last 30 years that we have been on the property no one can tell us why it is called Goat Rock.

What is an Honesty Tin?

Honesty – noun. the state or quality of being honest; specif., refraining from lying, cheating, or stealing; being truthful, trustworthy, or upright.
Our family, like all Australian farming families, works extremely hard to provide for our families and to provide facilities to our guests at Goat Rock so that they too can enjoy its beauty.  We appreciate your honesty in placing your day visit and camping fees in the tin provided at the Information Stand as this enables us to keep Goat Rock functioning.

Can I just go out and have a look around?

Yes, we allow day visitors at Goat Rock.  Day visitors are charged $3.00 per person.  You are quite welcome to use the BBQ and picnic facilities, and wander around the rocks.
